Axel Wolf is a freelance musician who lives on the shores of Lake Starnberg (Bavaria/ Germany). Using this as a base, he travels to such international festivals as those in Bruges, Utrecht, Rome, Tokyo or New York, both as a soloist or member of ensembles that include Musica Fiata (Cologne), Ars Antiqua Austria, Ensemble Phoenix Munich, the Freiburger Barockorchester, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment or the Gabrieli Consort & Players London, with conductors such as Ivor Bolton, Harry Bicket, Alan Curtis, Paul Mc Creesh and Joshua Rifkin.

In addition to numerous CD productions as a continuo player and accompanist, he has released solo recordings of the lute works of Johann Sebastian Bach, "Opera for Lute" - baroque arias for lute alone by Johann Adolf Hasse and works for lute and chitarrone by Alessandro Piccinini, accompanied by the United Continuo Ensemble.
