lute, theorbo, flute, recorder, tenor
Sven Schwannberger received his musical training as a flautist and lutenist in Munich, in Kassel and at the Schola cantorum basiliensis as well as at master classes held by the most important exponents of his instruments. As a flautist he has particularly specialized in the playing of recorders and transverse flutes of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. As a lutenist he focuses on Renaissance and Baroque compositions for solo lute, but above all on the figured bass. His Solo-CD recordings have both received high critical praise, e.g. "a chamber music jewel" (Klassik heute) and "with every conceivable finesse" (Hessen Radio).
He received the prize of the Peredur Foundation and has played as flautist and lutenist with important ensembles such as Concerto Vocale, Neue Hofkapelle Munich, Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, Wiener Akademie, Ars Antiqua Austria, Capriccio Basel. He has appeared at numerous festivals for ancient music (Innsbruck Festwochen, Schwetzingen, Ludwigsburg, Salzburg Festival, Karlsruhe Handel Festival), and with the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden under the direction of Ren Jacobs.
